cleaning a Pono satin finish

eric — Jan 29, 2015 09:55AM HST

Is Dunlop 65 guitar polish a good choice for cleaning a mahogany satin finish Pono? Will it keep the finish looking satin?

Any type of polish will create a shine to a satin finish. The oil from your hands will also do this and is most likley that you will be trying to clean off from a satin finish.

The best thing you can do is use a plush microfiber cloth and do your best to wipe away any sweat or oil you may leave on the finish after each playing session.

If you want to restore the look of the finish after a shine has been left on it you can use a "0000" extra fine steel wool or 3M pad and lightly use it to get rid of the shine. Repeated use of this method will eventually wear down the finish so it is best to stick to cleaning the finish with the cloth and only use the wool when it is necessary.
